Coverage Chart Bulk Material

 

To calculate how many cubic yards of material are needed, use the following procedure:

1         Determine the total square footage of the area needed  to be covered.

Rectangular areas: multiply length by width

Circular areas: multiply the radius by itself then by 3.14

2         Determine the desired depth of material. Determine the number of square feet covered by one yard at the desired depth using the table below.
3         Divide the total square footage of area being covered by the square foot coverage per cubic yard; based on desired depth in the table below.
4         The number found tells you how many cubic yards are needed for the area at that depth.

Depth 1 Cubic Yard Covers

4” 81 sq feet
5” 64.8 sq feet
6” 54 sq feet

8” 40.5 sq feet
9” 36 sq feet
10” 32.4 sq feet
11” 29.5 sq feet
12’’ 27 sq feet

Example: One cubic yard spread at a depth of 3 inches covers 108 sq feet.

27 cubic feet = 1 cubic yard

13.5 two cubic foot bags = 1 cubic yard

(One 2 cubic foot bag covers 8 square feet 3” deep)

9 three cubic foot bags= 1 cubic yard

(One 3 cubic foot bag covers 12 square feet 3” deep)
